Healthy Activities & Exercising
Regular physical exercise and other relaxing activities are an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Studies show again and again that those who lead an active life are more likely to live longer and less likely to become ill. What’s more physical exercise is the key to maintaining a healthy body weight.
Exercise can help you to maintain a healthy heart and reduces the risk of heart disease and strokes. It can also help to lower high blood pressure and balance your cholesterol levels, both of which are factors in heart disease and strokes.
Regular weight bearing exercise such as walking, running, tennis or dancing will help to maintain the health of your bones. Strong bones are essential especially as we age as poor bone health can lead to brittle bone conditions like osteoporosis.
When you exercise you also improve the health of your joints and this can help to prevent arthritic health conditions. Having healthy bones and joints means you are also less likely to suffer from back pain or other ‘general’ aches and pains as you age.
Studies suggest that those who exercise regularly are less likely to develop certain types of cancer and other chronic diseases. Breast and colon cancers are less common in those who engage in regular physical activity as is type 2 diabetes.
Finally exercise can help to prevent mental health conditions like depression. Those who exercise on a regular basis are less likely to become depressed or experience anxiety related disorders such as stress and panic attacks.
Taking part in relaxing activities like yoga and meditation or getting a massage also help you to live more healthily as they encourage stress reduction and mental relaxation. When we feel well in mind and body we are better able to manage life’s everyday strains and stresses and it’s easier to maintain a positive attitude. This improves our overall health.
Taking time out to relax is as good for your health as physical exercise and an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Yoga and Pilates both work on the mind as well as the body and focus on strength, flexibility and relaxation. This makes them an excellent form of exercise for anyone who wants to improve the look of their body and reap the rewards of deep relaxation.
